REPOST | Our Commitment To DEI

In our Diversity, Equity and Inclusion work, it’s not enough to talk about DEI only when it’s in the media. For this month’s blog, we’re reposting the statement we wrote nearly two years ago, which we include in every RFP response we send out.

Our DEI work continues with quarterly company trainings, program development and business best practices refinement. If you’d like information on how burkeMICHAEL+ created our DEI roadmap, reach out. We’d love to tell you.

. . . . . . . .

At burkeMICHAEL+, we are anti-racist. There is no place in our world for discrimination in any form.

burkeMICHAEL+ is committed to a diverse, equitable and inclusive workplace and society, one where all people are supported, valued and respected. We’re committed to modeling diversity and inclusion for our industry and community.

To promote diversity, equity and inclusion in our workplace and community, we:

  • Consciously promote, provide financial contribution for, and engage in the activism of underrepresented communities by challenging systems that create inequity, oppression and disparity.

  • See diversity, inclusion, and equity as connected to our values and mission, and critical to the well-being of our staff and the business we work with.

  • Acknowledge and dismantle any inequities within our policies, systems, programs, and services, and continually update and review progress.

  • Identify and challenge potential underlying, unquestioned assumptions that interfere with inclusiveness. Advocate for changes to systemic inequities that impact our work.

  • Lead with respect and tolerance. We expect all employees to embrace this notion and to express it in workplace interactions and through everyday practices. We uphold a zero tolerance policy for bullying and harassment.

  • Pursue cultural competency by providing substantive learning opportunities and formal, clear policies and transparent communication.

  • Improve the diversity of our employment pipeline by creating programs and policies to build a team that reflects the diversity of American society.

  • Develop a system for being conscious of bias during the hiring, promoting, or evaluating process. Train our hiring team on equitable practices.

  • Advocate for public and private-sector policies that promotes diversity, inclusion, and equity.
